Man attacked by bikers in front of families Uppingham

A man was taken to hospital with head injuries after he was attacked by a gang of bikers in front of families in the middle of the afternoon.

Police were called to the fight in Ayston Road, Uppingham, at about 1pm on Saturday afternoon. A Leicestershire Police spokesman could only give brief details of the incident, confirming that a man sustained injuries to the head and was taken to hospital. He was later discharged following treatment.

But eyewitnesses say the man was attacked by up to eight motorbike riders who punched and kicked him and “left him for dead”.

One witness, who asked not to be named, said the man had stepped into protect a woman from verbal abuse by the bikers, but was hit in the head from behind.

The extent of the man’s injuries are not known. No-one has yet been arrested in connection with the attack.

The road was closed for several hours while officers carried out enquiries. Sycamore Harley-Davidson, based nearby, had an open weekend at the time, although there is no suggestion the incident was related.
