Man arrested on suspicion of possessing offensive weapon and theft from Poundland in Peterborough

A Peterborough man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, as well as theft from Poundland.

Police were alerted by CCTV operators on Wednesday (May 12) evening to what they believed to be a man carrying a weapon in Broadway.

Their city neighbourhood teams then went and arrested the man in his 50s.

He has since been interviewed and released while the investigation progresses.

Police said a weapon will now be destroyed.

A statement from Cambridgeshire Police said: “After being alerted by CCTV operators about a man with a weapon in Broadway yesterday evening, our city centre neighbourhoods team arrested a man in his 50s on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, as well as theft from Poundland.

“He was brought into custody and interviewed about the alleged offences and has since been released while we progress our investigations.

“This weapon however, remains with us and will be destroyed.”
