Man arrested after ramming RAF base security checkpoint detained under Mental Health Act

A British man has been detained under section 136 of the Mental Health Act following a serious police incident at RAF Mildenhall yesterday.

The 44-year old was initially arrested on suspicion of criminal trespass after trying to ram his way through a security checkpoint at the base.

The male, who sustained cuts and bruises in the incident, has was taken into custody and police last night confirmed that the incident was not being treated as terrorism.

“Shots were fired by American service personnel and a man has been detained with cuts and bruises and taken into custody,” the force said in a statement.

Today, Tuesday December 19, police confirmed the man had been detained under section 136 of the Mental Health Act.

Police investigations into the incident continue and anyone with information is asked to contact Suffolk Police on 101.
