Man admits killing man in tragic Peterborough assault

A man has admitted killing another man in a Peterborough street.

Nicolae Budurus (39) pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Audrius Lapinskas at a hearing at Cambridge Crown Court today (Monday).

Budurus attacked Mr Lapinskas (30) in Lincoln Road on the evening of Sunday, January 5 this year.

A post mortem revealed Mr Lapinskas, of Watergall, Bretton, died as a result of the attack.

Mr Lapinskas collapsed near to the junction of Lincoln Road and Northfield Road just after 8.50pm.

He was taken to Peterborough City Hospital, but despite the best efforts of medics, he died on Sunday evening.

Budurus was arrested at the scene shortly after emergency services arrived.

A police cordon was immediately put up on Lincoln Road between the Searjeant Street/Stone Lane and Harris Street junctions, and it remained in place until around 3pm on Monday (January 6).

Budurus, of Lincoln Road, was charged with murder by police. He pleaded not guilty to the charge, and the prosecution accepted his guilty plea to the lesser charge.

He was remanded into custody until April 8, when he will be sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court.
