Legal eagles win contest

Budding barristers and aspiring lawyers were given the chance to show off their legal skills in a competition at Peterborough Crown Court.

The Peterborough heat of the Citizenship Foundation Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competition took place on Saturday, March 11 at the Crown & County Court building on Rivergate.

Pupils took on the role of magistrates, court staff and solicitors during the competition to show their understanding of the legal process.

The competition was supported by the Courts Service and local Magistrates who took-on the roles of judges stewards and scorers.

Four teams from schools in Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire competed in another close contest, which was won by Arthur Mellows Village College.

The pupils from Arthur Mellows will now go forward to the Regional Final later in the year.
