Gun amnesty launched in Peterborough - as owners warned they could face 10 year prison sentence

Residents who own certain types of gun are being urged to hand them in as part of a firearm amnesty in Peterborough – or they could face a 10 year prison sentence.

Five imitation guns that were previously legal to own are now illegal, and an amnesty is being run across the country to allow people to hand them in without fear of prosecution.

The firearms in question are:

• .380R (9mmK) PAK Bruni BBM ME Ranger single-action blank firing revolve

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said there were a number of ways for people to surrender the weapons as part of the amnesty.

They said: “You can surrender them at either Parkside Police Station, Cambridge, or Thorpe Wood Police Station, Peterborough, until 27 February.

“If you can't attend these stations, speak to us on webchat through the force website or call 101.

“The amnesty period is designed to enable those who purchased one of the models legally for their intended use to dispose of them safely. It also prevents potentially lethal weapons falling into the hands of criminals who may seek to convert them and pose a risk to the public.

“Possession of one of the guns after the amnesty ends could result in a prison sentence of 10 years.”
