Early morning police raid uncovers "fire risk" cannabis factory in Fenland town

Police have uncovered a cannabis factory in Whittlesey and arrested a man in his 70s.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said: “It was an early start for our rural and neighbourhood officers on Monday (February 16) as they carried out a warrant in Crease Bank, Whittlesey.

“A cannabis factory consisting of 270 plants was uncovered.

“A man in his 70s was arrested and has since been bailed while investigations continue.”

The warrant was part of the neighbourhood team's priority work to tackle drug dealing and drug use.

The force is reminding residents of the dangers posed by cannabis factories, and the signs of their existence to look out for.

“Cannabis factories can be an extremely dangerous fire risk, especially if the electricity has been bypassed,” the spokesperson added.

“Do you know the signs that you may be living or working next to a cannabis factory?”

• Lots of different people coming and going from the address at all times of the day and night

• Strange smells coming from the property

• Windows covered or curtains closed all the time
