Drivers sentenced after seriously injuring motorcyclists

Two drivers who seriously injured motorcyclists have been fined at court.

Hina Merchant (37) of Sprigs Road, Hampton, was driving a Honda Accord on the Nene Parkway when she collided with two bikers on January 17 this year.

Peterborough Magistrates' Court heard how Merchant failed to react to the two riders ahead, and joined the carriageway, colliding with them both and causing serious injuries.

Merchant appeared at the court earlier this month, pleading guilty to driving without due care and attention.

She was fined £120, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and costs of £110. She was also given six points on her licence.

Nina Leffley (43) of Sulthorpe Road, Ketton, near Stamford also admitted driving without due care and attention following an incident on the B1040 at Pomdersbridge on

Leffley was driving a Toyota Corolla, and failed to give way at a junction, and pulled out into the path of a motorcyclist. The rider suffered a serious injury.

Leffley was ordered to pay a fine of £230, a victim surcharge of £32 and costs of £110.
