The fines were handed out in Gunthorpe on Friday after a number of people were found in a one-bed flat in the area.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said: "Even though national restrictions are starting to lift and we are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel of what has been a very long and testing year for us all, we are still carrying out regular patrols and making sure our communities are adhering to the restrictions that are still in place (which most of you are!)

"On Friday, two of our officers were on patrol in Gunthorpe when they came across five adults inside a one-bed property - you do the maths!

"On speaking with the group, it turned out one of them had travelled from London "just to visit a friend".

"All five people do not form a ‘support bubble’ therefore fines were handed out.

"We all want to see our friends, just hang in there a bit longer, please!"
