Cambridgeshire police receive nearly five hoax calls a day

Police revealed on social media that in the past month they received 144 hoax calls.

The force said: "Inappropriate 999 calls stop genuine callers from getting the help they need and places lives at risk. Please think before you call."

All calls to the emergency services are recorded, and hoax calls are a criminal offence.

If you are found to be making a hoax call you could be fined £5,000 or even sent to prison for up to six months.
