Yesterday Scott Walker - known to Bernadette as ‘dad’ but not her biological father - was convicted of murder and perverting the course of justice. Bernadette’s mum, Sarah Walker, was convicted of perverting the course of justice.

After the jury delivered their verdicts at Cambridge Crown Court Ben Pearce, Principal at City of Peterborough Academy, said staff and pupils at the school were being given support to help them following the murder.

He also described Bernadette as a kind and caring youngster. He said: “All of us at the Academy are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our former pupils, Bernadette Walker.

“Bernadette was a truly kind and caring member of our community, and we will always remember her with great fondness. Bernadette will be deeply missed, and our thoughts go out to her friends and loved ones at this time.

“We are continuing to provide support to pupils and staff as appropriate during this time.”
