Arsonists believed to have started fire at Debenhams warehouse in Peterborough

Customers are being re-assured that Christmas orders will not be affected after arsonists struck at the Debenhams warehouse in Peterborough this week.

The fire was started at the Kingston Park building in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Today a spokesman for Debenhams said: “We are investigating an incident at our Peterborough warehouse with the support of the fire brigade and the police. Fortunately no-one has been injured.

“Orders guaranteed for Christmas delivery are unaffected.”

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “On Tuesday (22) at 12.21am, crews from Dogsthorpe, Stanground and Yaxley were called to a building fire on Kingston Park.

“Crews arrived to smoke issuing from the warehouse and a fire involving cardboard inside.

“The sprinkler system was activated and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus located the fire.

“Crews left the area at around 3.10am.

“The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate.”
