Crews remain at scene of large Fenland industrial estate blaze day after fire started
Fire fighters are still at the scene of a large industrial fire in Fenland a day after the blaze started.
The fire started at about 10am yesterday at the Eastwood Industrial Estate in Wimblington.
At the peak of the fire, more than 50 firefighters, including crews from March, Chatteris, Wisbech, Ely, Ramsey, Huntingdon, Dogsthorpe, Stanground and Cottenham, along with the north roaming fire engine, attended the scene. Crews from Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Suffolk and RAF Alconbury also attended the incident.
Firefighters arrived to find well developed fire involving an industrial building, which was filled with shredded paper.
Crews worked hard to extinguish the fire and stop it spreading to other buildings. They were also assisted by staff at the site who used diggers to break up the bales of paper.
The A141 was closed for some time, but reopened at around 6pm.
Those living in and around Wimblington are advised to close their doors and windows due to the smoke coming from the fire.
Crews remain on scene today (March 30th).
