Suspected stolen firearms, vehicles and cabling recovered in police crackdown on organised crime in rural areas near Peterborough

Officers carried out a raid on a site in Middle Drove and Ugg Mere Court Road at Ramsey Heights to target criminal activity linked to cannabis production as well as recent thefts of metal across Huntingdonshire.

Cambridgeshire police say that three arrests were made and that the raid uncovered nine cannabis factories being located containing cannabis with an estimated street value of £600,000.

The action on February 9 was taken by officers from the Huntingdon Neighbourhood Team and Rural Crime Action Team working alongside Ministry of Defence (MOD) Police.

The suspected stolen property included an Audi and BMW, a JCB believed to have been used in criminal activity, stolen firearm and ammunition, a large quantity of suspected stolen tools and plant machinery, car key cloning device, a skip, cable cutting equipment, copper cabling and stripped outer casing, multiple stolen number plates and two metal stags.

Police say that a 54-year-old man from Ramsey was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of an offensive weapon. He has since been bailed until 8 May.

A 26-year-old man from Ramsey was arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis and possession with intent to supply drugs.

And a 73-year-old man from Ramsey was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods, concealing criminal property, possession with intent to supply drugs and possession of firearms.

The 26-year-old and the 73-year-old remain in custody while investigations continue.

Neighbourhood Inspector Colin Norden said: “This operation is another clear example of our commitment to disrupting drug networks, tackling organised criminal activity and safeguarding the wider community.

"We will continue to act on intelligence and strike at any moment to protect our communities.
