Meat thief who targeted Aldi supermarket and OneStop shop in Peterborough is jailed
A man who stole meat worth hundreds of pounds from a Peterborough supermarket has been jailed.
Cambridgeshire Police said Abid Hussain, 41, went to the branch of Aldi in Flaxlands, Bretton, five times between February 1 and 10.
“Each time, Hussain went to the meat aisle, sometimes with accomplices, filled a shopping basket with various items and left via the fire exit without paying,” a force spokesperson said.
“The total value of the stolen meat was nearly £900.

“On 17 February Hussain went to OneStop in St Pauls Road, New England, where he stole meat worth £96.50, before returning the following day to take multiple bottles of washing up liquid without paying.
“Hussain, of Eaglesthorpe, New England, Peterborough, admitted seven counts of theft from a shop.”
On Thursday (19 February) at Huntingdon Magistrates' Court he was jailed for 16 weeks.
PC Poppy Halstead commented: “Hussain brazenly and persistently targeted the same supermarket, stealing a vast amount of stock.
“We continue to work with retailers to combat thefts and bring perpetrators before the courts wherever possible.”
