Jail for Peterborough man who punched, kicked and tried to strangle woman in "violent attack" after night out
A man from Peterborough who punched, kicked and attempted to strangle a woman following a night out with her has been jailed.
Cambridgeshire Police said Dominic Bevilacqua, 25, assaulted the victim on the evening of 4 November last year at his home in Anglers Avenue, Whittlesey.
“The victim, who had been in an on-off relationship with Bevilacqua, said out of nowhere he ‘just switched’ and grabbed her hair and dragged her off a bed,” a force spokesperson said.
“Bevilacqua then punched her in the face multiple times before placing his hands around her neck and strangling her.

“He also kicked and punched her in the face before she escaped and drove home.
“The victim attended hospital the following day for treatment.
“Bevilacqua was arrested on 6 November and tried to blame the victim’s behaviour for the assault.
“However, on Friday (23 January), at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court, acting as a crown court, Bevilacqua, was jailed for 20 months, having pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation.”
He was also given an indefinite restraining order against the victim.
DC Yeli Zaicevs, who investigated, commented: “Bevilacqua launched a brutal and cowardly attack and then tried to blame the victim so it’s great he’s been brought to justice.
“Domestic abuse is a force priority, and we’ll continue to do everything we can to put perpetrators in front of the courts.”
