Cheques show support for the library

The Friends of Deepings Library (FoDL) have been overwhelmed by the support from local businesses that has come forward for the reinstated service since opening its doors last week.

Two cheques were received in a presentation to Lorraine Watkins who accepted them on behalf of FoDL.

Last summer, cyclists from the Spin Room rode from Deeping to Brighton - 172 miles - and they also raised £400 for the Library in doing so. They presented Lorraine Watkins of the Friends of Deeping Library with a cheque, supported by Neil Harris, Louise Spriggs, Marriott and Stimson, Claire Cross, Spin Room and Sarah Devonport from Devonports Kitchens & Bathrooms.

Liz Waterland. Chairwoman of FoDL, said: “This contribution represents a great ride by a great group of people and emphasises the support the local community has given us.”

Further support came from Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund, with the presentation of a cheque by Helen Joyce, senior store trainer at Market Deeping Food Store.

She said: “I am delighted to be presenting Friends of Deeping Library with a cheque for £2,640. It is a founding principle of our Society to reward customer loyalty by investing in and supporting local communities. It is inspiring to see the funds go directly to support projects at a local level such as Friends of Deeping Library, where our customers can directly experience the difference such support can make.”

Both generous contributions will be used by FoDL to improve furniture and equipment at the Library.
