Amazon fire: Staff return to work following blaze at Peterborough warehouse

Staff have been allowed to return to work at the Amazon warehouse after 50 tonnes of carboard was destroyed in a blaze.

Firefighters were called to the site in Flaxley Road, Peterborough earlier today after a blaze broke out in the yard at the huge distribution centre.

Staff were told to leave the building at 12.25pm while fire crews worked at the scene.

A spokesman for Amazon said; “There was small fire at the centre, the team was evacuated for a short period, and we’re back in operation.”

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 12.25 to a report of a fire in Flaxley Road. Four crews and a water carrier there are in attendance. A number of bales of cardboard are alight outdoors (approx. 50 tonnes) next to a building.”
