Peterborough street shut due to house fire

A section of Welland Road has been shut while emergency services deal with a house fire.

The road is currently closed at the junction of Furze Ride.

There is a large police presence at the scene, as fire fighters bring the incident under control.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to a house fire on Welland Road, Dogsthorpe at 10.36am. Crews from Stanground, Yaxley and Whittlesey are in attendance.

“Crews arrived to find a fire had spread from a fence to a ground floor roof and attached terrace. Firefighters are using hose reels and a jet to get the fire under control and prevent further spread. Crews remain on the scene. The road is currently closed.”

Residents who have to travel during lockdown are advised to avoid the area,
