Peterborough residents given chance to feature on new charity nature calendar

Peterborough residents have been offered a chance to contribute to a new nature calendar showcasing the beauty of the local area and raising money for charity.

Laura Baker has come up with the idea following the success of the Peterborough Nature Cam Facebook group she also created.

She is an electrical engineer by trade but a keen animal lover and RSPB member, who has nurtured many injured or abandoned birds and other small animals at her own cost.

The group is a place for people in and around Peterborough to share any images of the local environment and animals that inhabit it they have taken.

Peterborough Nature Cam will celebrate its one year anniversary this month and as part of that, the idea for the calendar has been launched, with a photography competition to decide the image for each month.

At the end of each month, five of the best photos will be chosen and put forward to a panel of three judges, these will be the three people that have engaged most within the group in that month, and they will choose their favourite.

The winner will then be contacted, asked if they want to be involved and if so their picture will be the image for the corresponding month in 2022.

They will also be asked to select a local charity and all future proceeds will be split between the charities.

So far, the winners for December and January, Maisie Thomas and Colin Bradshaw have selected Peterborough Hedgehog Hotel and CPSL (Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire) Mind.
