Peterborough Telegraph reader David Watling captured the chase - and the catch - on his camera while out near Riverside Mead on Sunday.

His photos show the frequent visitor in pursuit of his prey, and him catching and eating it near the bridge on the old Nene near Stanground Marina

David - a keen photographer who lives nearby - said: “He drops in around three times a year and sometimes brings a friend - they get around the locks at Dog in a Doublet for a spot of fishing.”

He added that Sammy isn’t the only unusual visitor to the area, either.

“We had a couple of deer swim by our bungalow last weekend, but I didn’t get very good pics as they are so fast.

“I’m a keen photographer with a narrow boat so I get lots of wildlife pictures.”
