Peterborough is home to Cala's first net-zero-carbon enabled home
Cala Homes has completed its first net-zero-carbon enabled home, located at the homebuilder’s Hampton Lakes development in Peterborough.
Now available to view and reserve, The Eco₂ Holme, which is Cala’s first net-zero-carbon enabled home, offers homebuyers a unique, one-off opportunity to buy a home in the heart of the popular Hampton Vale development with sustainability built into its core.
The ‘one-of a kind’ four-bedroom detached home with garage brings together a range of carbon and energy-saving technologies under one roof and could save purchasers up to 92 per cent in energy costs.* Being net-zero-carbon enabled means the home has measures in place to ensure the property is highly energy efficient and help reduce energy demand.
The project demonstrates Cala's commitment to sustainable construction and is a culmination of reliable and highly recommended technologies, building on the homebuilder’s net zero principles. The purchaser will be the only resident within the development to have access to such technology, whilst also providing Cala with invaluable insight of its sustainability features.

The home at Hampton Lakes has been built using modern methods of construction including timber frame and low-carbon bricks, and features triple glazing and enhanced insulation. It also includes further features such as PV panels and a PV hot water diverter, which will help reduce the resident’s carbon footprint whilst also saving them money on energy bills, and battery storage – providing a back-up power source within the home. Other features include an air source heat pump, an environmentally friendly option rather than gas and oil boilers, smart lighting, aerated showers and underfloor heating to both floors.
Jason Colmer, Sales & Marketing Director for Cala Homes North Home Counties, said: “This is an exciting step for Cala and for our popular Hampton Lakes development, whilst it’s an important milestone on our sustainability journey to ensure that we continue to work towards future proofing our homes.
“Based on our Holme house type, which has already gathered a great deal of interest within this popular development, the Eco2 Holme is spacious and adaptable and includes Cala’s quality specification as standard.
“This is the ideal home for those with sustainability at the forefront of their mind. Not only is this home net-zero-enabled, but it is designed to save the buyer costs in the long-term which is incredibly enticing.

“Our current product offering at Hampton Lakes and further across the region showcases the energy efficiency and low maintenance living offered by new homes built to today’s building regulations, however this one-off home builds on our sustainability commitment and is a nod to our homes of the future.”
Steve Rule, Group Technical Director at Cala, said: “We have calculated that this home has the potential to use 95% less primary energy** compared to the same Cala house type built to current regulations.
“Early comparative in-situ testing has seen a 40% better thermal performance than our current homes built to the latest regulations, even with all the advances and efficiencies of new homes today.
“This is obviously significant for our customers, but it’s important that the customer experience is enhanced. Living in a net-zero-carbon enabled home should be seamless and that’s something we’ve strived to achieve here.”
Through Cala’s Sustainability Strategy the business is committed to achieving net-zero operational greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. It has also set a wider target of net-zero total greenhouse gas emissions across the business by 2045.
Hampton Lakes, situated in the welcoming community of Hampton Heights, offers a collection of two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes in the city of Peterborough, each with high quality specification, fantastic commuter links and surrounded by open green parkland.
