Rethinking this historic centre has given it a fresh look with clean lines and contemporary styling but the same attention to detail and quality as ever.

But this is much more than a new look and a new name - Blue Diamond. Aspirational couples and families with an eye for great styling and quality who are looking for a point of difference won’t be disappointed – and neither will the green-fingered gardeners amongst you. But there are now even more reasons to visit this home and garden store at PE1 Retail Park, including a new café serving freshly made cakes and patisserie and a food hall specialising in locally produced food and drink.

For decades the name Van Hage has been synonymous with quality and style – providing an eclectic mix of practical but elegant products for inside and outside your home. The Peterborough garden centre opened in February 2010 but at the end of last year, it was acquired by Blue Diamond along with sister centres at Great Amwell, Ware, and Chenies, between Amersham and Rickmansworth.

But for Blue Diamond Managing Director Alan Roper, this was far more than a business deal – he was buying into a legacy which had been part of his life for decades.

“For me personally, this is a landmark acquisition,” he said at the time. “Van Hage’s was one of three garden centres in the early nineties I would visit as a younger man for inspiration and would feel in awe of what they had achieved and never imagined that one day, we would be the proud owner of such a business."

He said the store had provided not just the products, but the design inspiration for people’s homes and gardens and, because Blue Diamond is Britain’s second-largest garden centre group, known for great quality and a good customer experience, the relaunched store can offer everything customers have enjoyed in the past with even more choice.

Style for home and garden

The 5,000 square metre store offers plenty of space to showcase a wide range of plants, gardening equipment and products, patio and conservatory furniture and barbecues and everything for the home including carefully selected items to add style and practicality to every room in the house.

If you’re an avid gardener you’ll find a credible range of plants, seeds and bulbs available along with exclusive ranges of gardening products developed with the National Trust, to include seed collections inspired by gardens of the National Trust, rose collections such as the Powis Castle rose collection, native tree collections and more. Each of these collections support the National Trust with a minimum of 10% of the retail selling price donated to go straight back into maintaining the very gardens that inspire the ranges!

Blue Diamond also stock their own range of environmentally-friendly plant treatments, composts, feeds and pesticides – the Grow Greener range.

Garden furniture needs to be practical and hard-wearing, but not compromise on design and style, which is why you’ll see a range of traditional and contemporary designs for garden furniture, water features, patio accessories and barbeques.

Shop local – eat well

The new Local Larder Food Hall stocks a range of locally-produced food and drink. Not only will you be able to pick up some delicious items for your kitchen stores but you’ll do so safe in the knowledge that you’re supporting local businesses and cutting down on food miles – it’s a win win!

Cakes, eats and treats

There are now two restaurants on-site to include Kiplings Café, new for the Blue Diamond store, replacing the existing café. Here you’ll be able to see cakes and pastries being freshly made and enjoy a mouth-watering selection of sweet treats, light bites and drinks – the only problem will be knowing what to choose!
