In pictures: An incredible lockdown garden transformation in Peterborough

Lockdown restrictions have meant many Peterborough residents have spent more time than planned in their homes… and their gardens.

And some have put that extra time to good use with stunning garden makeovers.

Now readers of the Peterborough Telegraph have shared their garden transformations featuring vivid colours, outdoor buildings and even waterfalls.

Daniel Smith and his partner Adam undertook a mammoth task of transforming their Whittlesey garden from just a lawn to their own haven complete with water feature and outside sheltered seating area with zero building experience.

‘Very proud’ of the finished product the pair spent three months in March 2020, tending to the garden, though they are planning to spruce it up again for this summer as Daniel says it ‘needs a good touch up now.’

Utilising their garden space has always been important to the couple. Daniel said: “We wanted a garden that we could host family and friends for BBQs. Previously we never had a usable garden as the entire garden is on a slope and the grass was worn and uneven. Now we feel our garden can fulfill our needs.”

With a budget of £3,000 initially as their ideas changed for the garden, so did the cost and the couple spent just over double on the wonderful new space.

Turning their plain patio and lawn into their own paradise complete with a pond and colourful decor around the patio which has been painted grey with pink furniture and flamingos to bring in that all-round summer feeling!

Making sure the garden was a usable space all year round, the couple have been able to entertain whatever the weather, having film nights when it rains, bbq and al-fresco lunches and cosy hot chocolate evenings and even a Santa’s grotto in the winter!

Though their favourite part of the garden is the pond as the couple find it ‘so relaxing to sit outside with a g&t whilst listening to the waterfall flowing.’

For anyone else hoping to take the plunge in transforming their outdoor space, Daniel has some words of advice.

He said: “It’s important to think about sunny and shady spots when planning your project, it’s amazing how you can utiliise even the smallest of spaces. With our garden we had a plan and then we adjusted it and made it up as we went along. Don’t be afraid of getting adventurous!”
