Tapas in the courtyard when Whittlesey fine dining restaurant reopens

Whittlesey’s Homme Nouveau fine dining restaurant will finally return after lockdown next week

Chef patron Chris Newman has allowed himself an extra couple of weeks since restrictions were eased, allowing outside hospitality, on April 12. He will start service in the newly revamped courtyard on April 30, opening Friday to Sunday until May 20 when diners are allowed inside.

And such is the appeal of the venue, he is already fully booked on the opening Friday and Saturday.

“I thought we would wait because of the unpredictable weather in April,” said Chris. “This way we open on a bank holiday weekend when we knew it would be busy.

“We will be doing a slightly reduced bar menu and a tapas menu, at least until we can get diners indoors, when we will reintroduce a la carte. But with such a small kitchen there is no way we can do all three.”

The courtyard where customers will be seated now has a permanent cover with lighting and heaters and will stay even when restrictions are further eased.

“The courtyard gives us 35 covers, slightly less than we can accommodate indoors, but after May, inside and out, we will be able to seat 75,” he added.
