The Greene King community pub, at Copeland in South Bretton, has been closed for a substantial ‘more than half-a-million’ five-week refurbishment.
The brand new fixtures and fittings aren’t the only changes, however.
The welcoming signs now say The Coopers Arms (as opposed to just Coopers) and there is a new team in charge.
No longer a Greene King managed pub, Sharron Cattermoul has taken on the franchise, and is the landlady, while her daughter Emma Cattermoul is pub manager.
Peterborian Sharron has come full circle – after being a customer at the pub in her younger days.
Sharron says she took redundancy from her job just over five years ago to run a pub in Chichester, with Emma joining her.
"It was something I should have done at 30 not 50,” she joked, “but in for a penny…..
“Then a couple of months ago I saw Coopers advertised on the Greene King website. It is a place that I have history with as one of the first pubs I used to go to when I was young.
"It was a great opportunity and I could not say no.”
And the new look is a far cry from those long-gone days. Sharron is thrilled with it – everything from the new colour scheme to the French doors opening out into the garden, which has been extended.
The pool and darts area have been extended too, and Sharron hopes to recruit some players to form teams.
Food is served throughout – although there is a cosy dining area – and there’s some new menu items alongside the pub favourites.
Customers get their first look of the place tomorrow (Thursday) at 12pm, while there will be an official opening ceremony and ribbon cutting with the Deputy Mayor at 5pm.
