Peterborough to get 'luxurious East meets West' world buffet restaurant
A plush new restaurant offering an "unforgettable journey through the world of flavours" is on its way to Peterborough.
Umami World Kitchen, with restaurants in Blackpool and Telford, is a relatively new spin-off from the more established Cosmo world buffet restaurant brand that has been around more than 20 years.
The restaurants have buffet stations covering World of Asia – with Chinese regional dishes; Teppanyaki – salmon, steak, prawns and scallops cooked on an iron griddle; House of Spice – featuring South East Asian favourites and an Indian banquet; Continental – a variety of pasta dishes and wood fired oven pizzas; and Carvery boasting roast turkey, lamb and beef with all the trimmings.
With ambitious expansion plans, openings are being advertised in Leicester, Colchester and Swansea, next in line could be Peterborough - close to the Putt and Play mini golf and amusements centre on the second floor of the Queensgate Shopping Centre.
This week a building control notice was submitted to city planners in relation to two units at the shopping centre and the "fit out of an existing shell unit to form a Cosmo restaurant".
The restaurant website, which also lists Peterborough “opening soon”, says: “Umami boasts a luxurious East meets West design, featuring exquisite stonework, marble, and contrasting timbers. As the first of its kind in the UK, Umami sets a high standard with its unique approach to world banqueting.
“Here, diners can feast on 100 cross-cultural cuisines via our all you can eat buffet, reflecting the best of Chinese, Italian, Indian, and Malaysian culinary traditions.
“Umami World Kitchen is not just a dining place, it’s a celebration of global flavours and a testament to our passion for culinary excellence. Our experienced team ensures that each visit is more than a meal; it’s an unforgettable journey through the world of flavours, served in a setting of unmatched elegance.”
Umami would join the likes of Hickory’s Smokehouse, Seoul Plaza, Mexi Bean Express and Chickaros, which are all expected to open in Peterborough in early 2026.
