Peterborough pub to close this week ahead of conversion to new Hickory’s Smokehouse

Peterborough’s Mulberry Tree Farm will close its doors this week.

The pub on Kempley Close in Hampton, which according to its website, “brings generous portions of classic British fare to Peterborough families” will close for the final time on Saturday February 28.

The pub has thanked customers for their support over the years and for the fact that the final night is now fully booked.

A Hickory’s Smokehouse is to take the place of the the Mulberry Tree. The Southern-style BBQ restaurant will be the first in Cambridgeshire.

John Welsh, Hickory’s managing director, said: “We are so excited to be heading to Peterborough - it’s an area that’s been on our wish list for a while now.

"We’re over the moon to finally be planning our first smokehouse in the town and our first in the wonderful county of Cambridgeshire.

“We’ll be spending plenty of time getting to know the area and our ambition is to create something really special.

"We can’t wait to become part of the local community for many years to come.

He added: “Across all our restaurants we love working with schools, charities, grassroots sports teams and community groups - and Peterborough will be no different.”

Hickory’s says it is planning a significant investment in the new smokehouse and neighbourhood bar.
