Inside the new Peterborough city centre pub opening its doors on Monday

A brand new pub is opening its doors in Peterborough city centre on Monday (September 7).

The Broadway Social will throw open its doors at the beginning of next week to add to the offering in the city centre.

The former home of the Sir Henry Royce on Broadway has stood vacant since February but has now been given a new lease of life after Amber Taverns stepped in to buy the pub.

The ambitious pub operators have a growing portfolio of almost 200 pubs, currently concentrated largely around the north west of the country and the Midlands.

Moving into Peterborough represents new ground for the operator with their nearest pubs currently located in Bedford, Wellingborough and Kettering.

The Broadway Social will offer a private karaoke room available for bookings, pool and darts plus a full sports package from TNT & Sky Sports.

This whole new lease of life will necessitate an investment in excess of £700,000.

New landlord Mike Watkins said: “We’re a good value business, we’ve got pool tables, darts, karaoke. We're here to have a good time and we’re going to be the best pub in the area.

"We are excited to put our stamp on the area as a growing business.

"We’ve got a good selection of beers and ales and will be the only pub in the area serving Worthingtons.”

There will also be a charitable element to the pub’s daily operations with 10p from every pint sold going into a charity pot called the Broadway Social Fund.

This fund will act as a force for good for Peterborough and will be donated to a selected local charity each month.

The first beneficiary will be men’s mental health Andy's Man Club, a cause close to Mike’s heart as he has previously acted as a facilitator for a group in London.
