The eat-in or takeaway has been taking shape in a converted retail unit in Bridge Street for months and created more than 20 jobs.

Diners will have their first opportunity to taste what is on offer on Thursday - with restaurant manager Sylwia Chybimska saying it will have been worth the wait.

GDK, open 11am to 11pm seven days a week, is spread across two floors with around 80 covers and has been stylishly fitted out with a rustic Nando meets Wagamama vibe. But it is the food that has made GDK, founded in Berlin in 1989, one of the fastest growing food chains nationwide.

“We are all very exited and looking forward to welcoming our first diners at 11 on Thursday,” said Sylwia, with one eye on tomorrow’s covid tiering announcement from the Government. “We think people will love what we have done here but what really stands out is the food - the quality meat, the tasty pitta breads and wraps and the toppings. People can pop in to grab a quick lunch to take away or take a break from shopping and sit down in comfort to eat.”
