A dome, pod or pergola - this Peterborough pub has got you covered

Peterborough pub landlord John Lawrence has gone all out to make sure returning customers will be sitting comfortable in the beer garden.

Visitors to John’s Blue Bell at Werrington were always well catered for if they fancied sitting outdoors anyway, with a variety of benches and four pods installed last summer.

But from today (Thursday) those popping in for a drink or a bite to eat - or both - will have a choice of a table under a pergola, a pod or a dome.

“We have added three new pods to the four we had last year,” said John, “plus four domes and an extra 10 benches on a semi-permanent basis on an area which is used for parking.

“In all we will have 40 different tables, each seating four to six people, so most customers will have a choice of what suits them.”

With the seating options set to stay throughout the summer - long after customers are allowed back inside the pub in May - John added: “We have an outside bar with six taps so we can serve quite a variety of beers without going in and out of the pub all the time.

“The back door of the kitchen is also well placed for taking plates out to the tables, when we do food from Thursday to Sunday, with menus adjusted to suit being eaten outdoors.”

And if that wasn’t enough John has had an outdoor bandstand put up for a variety of entertainment.
