Peterborough's Cathedral Square Ice rink opening day delayed

The Cathedral Square ice rink opening has been delayed.

The rink was due to open on Friday (November 25), but will now open on Saturday.

The outdoor rink is one of the centre pieces in Peterborough’s Christmas celebrations, and takes its place alongside the 40ft tree.

A council spokesperson said: “A delay with the electrical inspection has put the set-up back, meaning it will now open for skating on Saturday 26 November instead.

“The operator will be contacting customers who booked for this date and providing the opportunity to rebook or receive a refund.

“It has been great this week to see the excitement building around the opening of the ice rink, following a very successful Christmas lights switch-on last weekend, and we look forward to seeing people skating in our wonderful Cathedral Square very soon.

Peterborough’s ice hockey team, the Phantoms, had been due to officially open the rink on Friday, alongside the cast of The Key Theatre’s panto, Dick Whittington.

Provided by Dash Events Ltd and sponsored by Hilton Garden Inn, the new 20mx20m real ice rink will be open from 10am to 8pm (Sun-Thur) and 10am to 10pm (Fri-Sat) until the new year, January 4. Walk-ins are available but it is advised to pre-book your tickets to avoid the queues.
