Peterborough schools celebrate Christmas in different way this year

Schools across Peterborough have been finding ways to still celebrate Christmas this year.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, many schools have been forced to hold more low key events this year but many have still continued to get into the spirit. Efforts range from putting on virtual nativity plays, raising money for local charities, holding Christmas jumper days and taking pari in christingle services.

One such school was Nenegate who arranged fundraising activities to support the Rotary Club Christmas Tree Appeal, to help those less fortunate than themselves.

Each class planned and organised an event including a virtual Bingo game, a pool competition, virtual quiz, guess the sweets in a jar and a raffle and the event raised over £150. Pupils then went Christmas shopping and spent their earnings on 70 presents for vulnerable young people and babies in their local area.

Jon Blundell, a teacher at NeneGate and member of the Rotary Club, said: “This is a fantastic amount for a school of only 40 students and will really help the Rotary Club appeal in what is a very difficult year.”

Below are some of the events that other schools in the city held, that the Peterborough Telegraph was able to photograph.
