Looking back: ‘Memories of Peterborough’s market’

It’s been an unsettling time for market tradersand customers alike with Peterboorough City Council unveiling plans to redevelop the Northminster area.

The market will have to move although the council has promised a new home will be found for it.

Here are some pictures from the market’s past.

The first picture shows a vibrant scene and was taken at the turn of the century.

The market traders in the next pictures after that are Cobby and Leonie Bordaen and Samuel Phillips.

The next picture was taken by Chris Porsz and shows a young customer at a watch stall.

Finally, the last picture shows a view of a busy market taken in the 1970s.

Can you spot an ET kiosk and a red telephone box?

Do you have any pictures of Peterborough people and places from the 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s?
