Looking Back: Iconic Peterborough firms from the past

Here are three great pictures of staff from some of the great names of Peterborough industry.

Sadly, some of those on the pictures won’t be alive today but I wonder how many children, grandchildren, and generations beyond, recognise any of the faces?

The top picture dates back to the mid-1940s and shows female staff – which suggests it was taken before the end of the Second World War – at engineering firm Peter Brotherhood.

The picture below it shows a group of likely lads outside Perkins Apprentice School, which was at the end of Grange Road. This photograph was taken in the 1950s.

The final picture shows the Baker Perkins Apprentice intake in August 1954.
