Looking Back: Happy memories of The Solstice

News that The Solstice has closed was greeted with sadness by many Peterborough folk.

The popular pub in Northminster has been one of the mainstays of the Peterborough city centre late night entertainment scene for more than two decades.

The owners have blamed the closure on the ongoing coronavirus restrictions imposed by the Government.

The pub was always popular but never more so than when England were playing in a World Cup or European Championships, when hundreds of fans gathered to cheer on the national side.

One picture shows staff members who formed a team which took part in the Dragonboat Festival. Two other staff members - cheery looking doormen - are pictured.

The venue also hosted several boxing related events. One picture shows well known local boxing man Kev Sanders with two champions of the sport.
