Looking back: ‘Golden age for Peterborough cinema’

With work continuing apace on a new multi-screen cinema in Queensgate, perhaps post lockdown we will see a new golden age for movie-goers in the city.

Our pictures today show the ABC and the Odeon, both located on Broadway.

The ABC was housed in one of the city’s most distinctive buildings.

It began life as the Embassy Theatre and is now home to Edwards bar.

The films showing on the three screens date the picture to 1980.

The picture below shows the Odeon cinema which in recent times has been the Broadway theatre and is now the New Theatre.
