Happy groups and scenic views – more pictures from Peterborough’s past

Today’s Looking Back pictures are a random, but fascinating, set of snapshots of the city.

One picture shows a magnificent view of the old Town Bridge looking towards Bridge Street.

There are two group shots. The first is a bit of a mystery with no caption. The happy looking group of men look like they were heading out on a trip. Does anybody have any information?

The picture of the women was sent in some time ago by Richard Burt who said it showed the Punch room girls, including his late wife Pam, from the British Sugar beet factory in Oundle Road taken about 1961.

The photograph taken looking through the cathedral gates shows the work to pave over Cathedral Square (not the 2010 work!).

There is a view of a Peterborough street but there are no details with it.

Does anybody recognise where it is and when it was taken?

We know a bit more about the final picture which shows the old police house in Castor and was taken in 1934.
