Looking Back: The changing face of Broadway and Midgate in Peterborough city centre

Take a look at how the Broadway and Midgate area of Peterborough city centre looked in the 70s and 80s - and how it has changed.

Check out the names of some of the stores back then – DER, Harry Fenton, Richmond, all in the Hereward Centre, and Sheltons standing tall in Broadway, of course – remember them?

You can also see the signs for the Odeon and Cannon cinemas – now the New Theatre and Embassy bar.

Also, look at the number of cranes dominating the skyline – it really was a time of change.

Taking you back a bit further there’s Barrett’s on the corner of Midgate and Long Causeway – and trams travelling down Midgate.
