Update: More than 96 per cent of over 70s in Peterborough have been given Covid vaccine

New figures show that more than 96 per cent of over 70s in Peterborough have now been given a Covid vaccination.

The figures are based on provisional data from NHS England for vaccinations up to February 21 and show that in Peterborough 20,709 over 70s have been vaccinated which is 96.5 per cent of the total of that age group in the city.

The success of the vaccinations rollout in the city comes as Peterborough’s rate of new cases remains the second highest in the country, up slightly from 262 to 264 cases per 100,000 of population, with 534 new cases diagnosed in the seven days to February 21.

Figures for the whole of Cambridgeshire and Peterboroough published yesterday (February 25) showed 20,496 received a Covid vaccine in the past week.

The data from NHS England shows that a total of 229,331 people in the whole of Cambridgeshire had received their first dose by February 21.

6,199 had their second dose by the same date, meaning that 235,530 doses in total have been given out across the region, a rise of around 20,000 since February 14 when the figure stood at 215,034.

The vaccination drive has been advancing forward considerably with 83,762 under 65s now having received their first dose, with 1,158 having had a second dose.

29,279 people aged between 65 and 69 have also had their first dose, with 72 second doses given out to those in the age bracket.

A total of 31,457 people aged 75-79 have had their first dose, up slightly from 31,295 the previous week. Eight have had their second dose - three more than the previous week,

For people aged 70-74, 42,260 have had their first dose - up from 41,928 the previous week. 24 have had a second dose compared to 18 the previous week.

For people aged 80 and over, 42,573 people have had the first dose (up from 42,198 the previous week). Of those, 4,937 have had the second dose, up from 4,903.
