There have now been 152 deaths related to the virus at the hospital since March 24.

Caroline Walker, Chief Executive, for North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I can confirm that sadly, 251 patients being cared for in our Trust have passed away since we began reporting Covid-19-related deaths. There have been 99 at Hinchingbrooke Hospital and 152 at Peterborough City Hospital. All patients were aged 30 to 98 years old and had pre-existing health conditions. They had all tested positive for Covid-19.

“Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patients’ families and loved ones at this difficult time.”

A North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust Spokesman said there had been 29 people hospitalised with COVID-19 in the past two weeks - during the same two weeks a month ago there were 46 new cases, and two months ago there were 228 cases. The trust runs Peterborough City, Hinchingbrooke and Stamford and Rutland Hospitals.

Figures released yesterday show Peterborough currently sits eighth in the country for most cases per 100,000 people.

A mobile testing site was opened in Gladstone Park this week, to encourage more people to get tested if they are showing symptoms.

There have been 1,348 positive tests recorded in Peterborough since the pandemic began.
