Multiple positive tests have been recorded at the city’s schools, forcing class bubbles to self-isolate but the school in Crowland becomes the first one in the Peterborough area to completely close because of an outbreak.

Earlier this month, it was confirmed that from the start of the autumn term on September 3 until October 35, there were 145 reported Covid-19 cases across early year settings, schools and colleges in Peterborough. This led to around 200 staff and 2,689 pupils and students being unable to attend schools.

Andy Fox, Public Health Consultant for Lincolnshire County Council, confirmed that Southview had closed and said: “As of yesterday morning, Lincolnshire’s Health Protection Team is currently working with 90 schools that have had confirmed cases of coronavirus.

“All schools are taking action to limit the potential spread of the virus, with some pupils and staff self-isolating as a precaution where necessary.

“The majority of schools remain fully open, and those affected are working really well to limit both the risk of the virus spreading and the impact on the pupils’ education.”
