Peterborough neighbourhoods to see most coronavirus deaths

Central Peterborough has seen more coronavirus deaths than any other area of the city.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) data shows that there have been 18 deaths where COVID-19 was the underlying (main) cause on the death certificate in Central Peterborough since the pandemic began (covering the period March to December 2020.)

Bretton Park was second on the list with 17 deaths.

Across Peterborough there were a total of 150 coronavirus deaths recorded by the ONS figures.

Paston is the only area where no coronavirus deaths have been recorded.

The figure is different to the number of deaths issued by the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, who have said there have been 335 deaths related to coronavirus since the pandemic began.

Caroline Walker, Chief Executive, for North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I can confirm that sadly, 484 patients being cared for in our Trust have passed away since we began reporting Covid-19-related deaths. There have been 149 at Hinchingbrooke Hospital and 335 at Peterborough City Hospital. All patients were aged 30 to 98 years old and the majority of those had pre-existing health conditions. We are currently caring for 267 patients with Coronavirus in our hospitals.

“Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patients’ families and loved ones at this difficult time.”

The trust has not said how they are measuring deaths related to coronavirus - but their figure will include January deaths and some from patients from outside the Peterborough area.
