Ferry Meadows car parks closed due to lack of social distancing

The car parks at Ferry Meadows have been closed due to a "concerning number of people not adhering to social distancing".

Nene Park Trust, which runs the country park, posted the following message on social media shortly after 5pm this afternoon:

"Ferry Meadows car parks CLOSED Sunday 31st May 2020 until further notice

"The park was extremely busy today, Saturday 30th May. Unfortunately there were a concerning number of people not adhering to social distancing guidelines and the Park Code, to the point where our team were very stretched and unable fulfil their duties for the vast majority of respectful visitors.

"For this reason and to contain the number of visitors we have taken the decision to close the car parks at Ferry Meadows from Sunday 31st May.

"Our Rangers have been working tirelessly managing car parking and keeping people safe. We have taken this decision for their safety, and for the safety of all our visitors to Nene Park.

"We will review the situation on Monday 1st June. Thank you for your understanding."

Police were at Ferry Meadows this afternoon - where many people were observing social distancing - and also at the Embankment, where a dispersal order is in place in a bid to prevent a planned ‘party’.
