Coronavirus: Five Lads and Peterborough charity 'team up' to donate meals to over 70s; used car company shuts premises

A Peterborough charity has 'teamed up' with grill restaurant Five Lads to offer free hot meals to the over 70s isolated by the coronavirus.

Children of Adam, which has fundraised for years in the city, said it was working with the restaurant in Cowgate to get the food to the elderly currently in isolation.

It is now appealing for donations from people to pay for the meals.

The charity said: "Children of Adam and its volunteers/support groups are receiving a significant number of calls from older people and families facing financial hardship in distress because they haven't enough food and are at home and are too nervous to go out.

"The Government have announced that everyone over the age of 70 could be asked to self-isolate at home for up to four months in a bid to shield them from the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. We're were working on the ground to assist our elders in the community.

"Children of Adam have teamed up with Five Lads restaurant in Peterborough and we are offering free meals to those over the age of 70 who are in isolation.

"Please donate what you can, we will only be able to continue to offer these free meals with your kind support and donations."

Meanwhile, Kingfisher Cars, which operates in Peterborough, has announced that it is temporarily closing its business in Lincoln Road from Monday afternoon.

The used cars firm said: "Obviously, there are occasions when people need to buy a car and for that reason we can be available for test drive by appointment only.

"Communication will therefore be by email and social media only."
