Whittlesey primary school celebrates opening of new extension

Alderman Jacobs Primary School in Whittlesey has celebrated the official opening of its new extension.

On Thursday morning (November 13), Headteacher Martin Fry cut the ribbon on the new-build which has provided the school with a new reception area, offices, conference room, medical room, new disabled toilet facilities and a newly-relocated and improved library.

The project has taken shape over the last 18 months thanks to a successful bid to central government from the Soke Education Trust to help make the school safer.

The safeguarding project has also included new fencing around the school perimeter as well as new gates.

Mr Fry said: “This has helped everyone feel much safer and gives us a lot more room, plus some bright and airy spaces for children, parents and staff.

“It has already made such a positive difference to the school. Having more space to allow parents and other visitors to come into the school is great. Even a little thing such as a more accessible disabled toiler at the front of the school makes things a lot easier for visitors.

“Inside, we have more space and a really important medical room to keep our children safe.

“We’re all about having lots of energy here at Alderman Jacobs- our strapline is energy for life, learning and the environment- and we think that the environment in which we work and learn in is at the highest standard.”
