School near Peterborough arranges personalised tours for parents

A school near Peterborough has introduced personalised, socially distanced tours for parents who are planning to send their children there.

Parents with children due to start school in September 2021 can book a personalised tour around Barnack CE Primary School to see for themselves the opportunities it offers their children.

Applications for primary school places opened on September 11th 2020 and closes on January 15, 2021. Normally, primary schools invite prospective parents in to look around the schools to help them decide which schools to apply to for places for their children.

Although, this year, because of the current Coronavirus restrictions, many schools are not offering tours to parents.

However, Executive Headteacher Colette Firth and Head of School Amy Jones wanted to give parents the opportunity to see for themselves the fantastic learning opportunities available at the village school through individual family tours.

Mrs Jones said: “Starting school is a really important milestone in every child’s life and deciding which schools to apply to for places is a really big decision for parents.

“We want to help parents with that decision by giving them the opportunity to see for themselves what we do here at Barnack and view our most wonderful grounds right in the heart of our community. Under current restrictions, to do this as safely as possible, our tours are only open to one family at a time.”

Mrs Willson, whose child is currently in reception, said: “My son has really enjoyed joining reception this year and has settled so well into school – the transition, even in such strange times, was managed so well and really took into account what my child needed.

Miss Brass has been wonderful at making the learning fun and engaging, and my son has come home so happy each day. We have found Barnack to have a great community atmosphere and would thoroughly recommend it to other parents.”

Tours are available after 3.30pm and parents must wear a mask if they are required by law to do so and must use hand sanitizer and follow social distancing guidelines.
