Peterborough teacher who works with deaf children to appear on children's TV on Channel 5

A Peterborough teacher is set to appear on children’s TV on Channel 5.

Alexander Quant-Smith, who supports deaf children and young people across Cambridgeshire, will appear on 5's Milkshake! Story Den on September 10 after being selected as one of six teachers from across the UK to take part in Feature Your Teacher, a special Milkshake! initiative celebrating teachers who inspire a love of reading in young children.

Launched as part of the UK's National Year of Reading, the initiative invited teachers from across the country to share their passion for storytelling with preschool audiences.

Alexander is a Teacher of the Deaf who supports children and young people with a range of hearing needs from birth through to young adulthood. He uses images, movement, games and stories to help bring learning to life and encourage confidence and communication.

In his episode of Milkshake! Story Den, Alexander will read That's Not Stella.

He said: “Stories have an incredible way of capturing children's imaginations and helping them explore the world around them.

"Supporting deaf children and young people, I see every day how storytelling can help build confidence, communication and a love of learning.

"Putting the fun into reading is something I'm passionate about, so it was a privilege to take part in Milkshake! Story Den and encourage more children to discover the joy of books."
