The school had to send its ‘green zone’ cohort home, which includes all of year four and five after a youngster had a confirmed Covid-19 test.

Headteacher Janet McMurdo contacted Public Health England as soon as the case was confirmed. That entire group, including teachers, was sent home to isolate for 14 days. They will now be taught at home.

A letter sent to parents said: “Much of yesterday was taken up with contacting parents to collect their children and supporting staff as they had to quickly prepare children for home learning and get ready themselves to work from home.

“I do recognise that ideally we should have contacted all parents before the ‘local jungle drums’ began beating. Time constraints made that impossible, but if that left you feeling anxious and unsure we do really apologise.

“We have done all that is required of us to this point and continue to enjoy teaching in school all those children who are allowed to come to school.”

The school declined to comment when contacted by reporters.
