Culture Community is a group of volunteers made up of teachers and parents who are passionate about teaching black history.

Founder Precious Graham said: “The reason why Culture Community started was to bring a unity in Peterborough with youths of every race and religion.

“Black history is not included in the school curriculum and I felt that it was very important that youths that want to learn about black history have the chance and opportunity to do so.

“So I got together a group of volunteers that consists of teachers and parents that want to be involved and we started from there. We were fortunate enough to also receive funding from PCVS and Youth Inspired to help with the progression of our project which we are truly grateful for.

“We want the sessions to not only teach black history but also build on the students’ own talents and interests - building a group of confident, unique individuals.

“Culture Community will also give children of all races a chance to have the difficult conversations that they may not feel comfortable having with others. They will be able to express their thoughts and feelings in a safe and secure environment.

“We are so excited to bring something new to Peterborough for the youths and can’t wait for the launch.”
